How to a MS Word or Word Perfect File in RTF format

RTF format stands for Rich Text Format. Submitting a RTF file is recommended so that your professor and students can open the file with the word processor they use.


Use the following steps as a guide to convert your a Word Perfect or MS word file to an rtf format.

1. Open the document created in your Word Perfect. Go to File and select Save As. The Save As dialog box shows up.

2. In the Save As dialog box,
a. Click the down arrow next to the File Type (bottom).

b. Scroll the vertical bar up until you see Rich Text Format. Select Rich Text Format. Click Save button. This RTF file is then saved in the same folder as your Word Perfect file.

II. Use MS Word program to Save a RTF File. I. Use Word Perfect to Save a RTF File.

1.  Open up a MS word document in MS Word. Go to File (upper left), click on Save As. The Save As dialog box opens up.

2. At the bottom of the dialog box window, look for "Save as type". Click the down arrow for Save as type box, drag the vertical bar down until you see "Rich Text Format". Select "Rich Text Format" and click Save. Now your Word file is saved as RTF format in the same folder.
