The Discussion Board allows you to participate in virtual conversations. 'Threaded discussion refers to online discussion postings that are related to a specific topic. The instructor or students can post a message or respond to a message at any time from any location. The initial message posted by the instructor or a student may be responded to with other messages. This group of messages is called a 'thread'.

Enter Discussions, and click on a topic. You will see several threads are listed in the topic window. If you look at a message thread, the first number under the Messages column tells you the number of messages in this thread. The second number tells you the number of unread messages in this thread. When you click the Display Complete Thread icon
, you see a list of messages in the thread with subject, author, and date. Scroll down to read the rest of messages.

A message posted on the Discussion Board can be viewed by all students in the class and the instructor. Therefore, the discussion board is used to share information with others. If you would like to write a private message to someone (your instructor or another student in the class), use the Mail tool in Blackboard instead.
