Preparations - Log On To Blackboard Vista

1. System Requirements
- For browsers that are compatible with Blackboard Vista, please visit the CTDLC system requirements page (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

2. Your NetID and password

• Open a web browser and go to my.commnet.edu. Enter your NetID and Password.
• NetID : BannerID@student.commnet.edu
• Password: The same password to log on to a campus computer at any of 12 Connecticut community colleges.
• If you have never logged on to a campus computer, the initial password is a combination of your first 3 letters of birth month (capitalize the first letter) and thelast four digit of your social security number.
  
  
• For example, if you are born in April and the last four digits of your social security number are 4575, then your initial password is Apr&4575 (case sensitive).
  
  
• After you logon with the initial password, you will be prompted to change to a new password.  The new password MUST have 8 or more characters and satisfy 3 of the 4 rules as follows:
• Upper case
• Lower case
• Numbers
• Special characters
• One example of a new password is Flower07 (case sensitive). Remember; do not use your name or birthday in the new password.

3. Inability to access to the Blackboard Vista course site
The following are two messages that are common errors you may see if you attempt to enter to your online class in myCommNet at my.commnet.edu.

• Message 1 : "Your instructor has not applied the course content to the class." Your instructor has not created class content in Blackboard Vista at the moment. At rare instance, you may have registered to an incorrect course.
• Message 2 : "Your instructor has denied access." You are currently denied access to your class until the first day of a semester.

Solution to Message 1: For online classes, you may have to wait until one week prior to a semester starts to view the course content. Within one week prior to the first day of a class, if you still don't see the course content, contact the Distance Learning at mxccdistance@mxcc.commnet.edu (Chapman 633/632, (860) 343 - 5756) stating the problem and providing your Banner ID, course Title, Course Name, Course CRN you registered.

Solution to Message 2: Wait until the first day of a semester and log on again. If you see this error message after the semester starts, you should contact your instructor. Click here for instruction on how to know your course instructor.

4. Reset your password to the initial password

If you have trouble logging in with the NetID and password, bring your photo ID and stop by the following offices to have your password reset within the office hours, Mon-Fri, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.

For online students who are not able to come to our campuses, FAX your request with a photo ID to (860) 344 – 7488. Write down and provide with the following in your FAX: Attention to: Distance Learning, your name, Banner ID, phone#, requesting to have your NetID password reset, signature, and Photo ID (Student ID or Driver’s License). After you FAX the request, notify Distance Learning staff at mxccdistance@mxcc.commnet.edu. Your request will be processed during Distance Learning office hours.
