MxCC President’s Committee on Diversity Sponsors Black History Program
1/1/2009
On Wed. Feb. 18, at 12:30 p.m., Roger Brewer and his daughter Nicole will be
the featured speakers at a Black History program at Middlesex Community College.
The program, sponsored by the college’s President’s Committee on Diversity,
will be held in the student lounge of Founders Hall, at the Middletown campus.
“The
time for self-awareness and self-empowerment is now,” is the message the
Brewers are conveying in their book, Withstanding the Lie. The father-daughter
team see their book as a vehicle to “Get the message out to as many
people as possible about how to empower and protect themselves mentally and
emotionally from the bigotry of others,” said Roger.
PCOD
encourages the community to come and hear the Brewers and join in this
discussion, “Because the book
was written to help people who face bigotry of any kind (bigotry based on race,
ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation and so on), the ultimate goal of Withstanding
the Lie is to help people with their self-esteem so that they can truly
recognize that they are equal in value to everyone else no matter how they are
treated by others,” said Nicole.
The MxCC campus, at 100 Training Hill Road,
provides plenty of free parking and is handicapped accessible.

member Greg Kline at 860-343-6914 or gkline@mxcc.commnet.edu.
